一 |     (ECNS) -- Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, speaking in Chinese, underscored the importance of bilingual education and urged families to create environments where children can enjoy the language.     Wong said more than 1,000 students have benefited from expanded advanced Chinese courses this year, with about one quarter of Secondary 1 students enrolled.        He cited examples of Straits Times reporter Alyssa Woo improving language fluency by immersing herself in Chinese entertainment, from TV dramas such as Pursuit of Jade to songs by Pop icon Jay Chou.    “Watching dramas and listening to songs can really help with learning Chinese,” Wong said, encouraging people to find enjoyable ways to practice the language.    He added that dialects remain a cultural bond, recalling watching the Teochew version of the film Dear You.    Singapore and China’s national libraries will co-host an exhibition on the Four Great Classical Novels later this year.    Wong stressed that Chinese has become a common language among Singapore’s Chinese community and should continue to serve as a bridge to Chinese-speaking communities worldwide.    He stressed that Singapore should continue promoting Chinese as an important part of its multicultural identity and a bridge to Chinese-speaking communities around the world.    (By Helen Mo & intern Liu Shuangjing)                    。    By nearly a 2-1 margin, Kansas residents heading to the polls Wednesday declined to reverse a 2019 ruling by the Kansas Supreme Court establishing the right to abortion.,The vote is a major repudiation of recent legislative moves curtailing reproductive rights – most notably the Supreme Court’s June decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.,One middle-aged woman who brought her 16-year-old daughter to the polling station reportedly told the AP that she wanted her child “to have the same rights [her] mother has had most of her life.”,The proposed amendment was sponsored by Value Them Both, a coalition led by Kansans for Life, the Kansas Catholic Conference and Kansas Family Voice. One of the lawyers responsible for crafting the failed constitutional amendment reportedly described the measure as an attempt to keep Kansas from becoming an “unlimited destination for abortion.”,A number of Kansas residents reported being subjected to a last-minute text message campaign seemingly aimed at fooling pro-choice voters into voting for the anti-abortion proposal. The mass messaging platform being utilized, Twilio, has not identified the party responsible.,We’ve gotten several emails from KS voters getting this text. With over 99% of the ballots counted, a full 60.86% rejected the Value Them Both’s amendment.
